Book of Faith

Will other resource materials be provided on line for the Advent study, as they were with the 2009 Lenten study? We appreciated and used many of the suggestions for creative music and worship and the listing of additional resources for leaders of Bible study and worship during Lent.

Hi! I'm an editor at Augsburg Fortress.

Thank you for asking about Book of Faith Advent Reflections: While We Wait, which releases October 1. This book has four weeks of daily reflections and activities for individuals, families, and groups. Four Bible studies, one for each Sunday in Advent, are provided in the book.

There aren't online materials for Advent Reflections. However, the reflections and Bible studies are based on the lectionary readings for the four Sundays in Advent, so they should tie in nicely with anything you would plan for Sunday or midweek worship in Advent. And if you have ideas or suggestions for connecting the book with worship or other congregational activities, feel free to share them here!

We've been using the Book of Faith for adult Bible study now for a year and a half (since it came out?) I think and have enjoyed the Advent Reflections and Lenten Journey very much.

I use the Advent activity of a tablecloth at home and have a suggestion. My children really enjoy the table-cloth. However, being 5 and 7, it is way above their level so we read the Bible verse, ask them what they think it means, talk about it and then do the activity. My suggestion is to release kid-friendly, or rather, family-friendly versions of the Advent activity. My five year old asked, "What will the picture be?" - which would be my second suggestion, creatively making the activity be a part of a whole picture (perhaps something you turn upside down and *pow* there's the birth of Jesus kind of thing).

If a children's Book of Faith isn't in the works, I'd strongly recommend it. I love this series for the thoughtful questions, dynamic discussions and insight it has given us to ourselves, our perceptions and the Bible, not to mention what it means to be Lutheran!
