Friends,
In the midst of these post assembly days, I do not want to lose sight of the wonderful Book of Faith Jubilee we experienced the three days prior. As I said to the assembly, we invited the presence of the Holy Spirit, and darned if the whole Trinity didn’t show up!
I am starting this conversation in the hopes that a number of things might happen.
One, we can now share with all of you the videos of the four keynote addresses, Saturday night’s rousing service, Bishop Hanson’s remarks, and the closing panel. These can be found at

Just click on Video Review of the 2009 Book of Faith Jubilee and you will find:
• A dialogue with Eugene Peterson in which I was privileged to have a conversation with this most gentle and significant translator and interpreter of the Bible. His thoughts about the possibilities of inviting folks into a meaningful encounter with Scripture are profound.
• A significant address by David Anderson about the challenge of bringing the encounter with Scripture into our homes.
• An inviting look by Deanna Thompson into how contemporary literature helps us open a conversation about the Bible with college age folks and beyond.
• A gripping service led by preacher Larry Clark who brought down the house and raised up the rafters.
• A rousing final address by Rolf Jacobson sending us out with many thoughts about how opening up encounter with Scripture in our congregations might really happen. This is proceeded by very encouraging words by presiding Bishop Mark Hanson.
• A final listener panel with some marvelous questions and observations.
Two, we will be posting handouts from the splendid workshops. I have heard nothing but great reports about all of them. Hopefully some of the workshop participants or leaders might start their own conversations.
Three, the various affinity groups that met during the Jubilee are invited to begin their own conversations, private or public.
Four, if any of you who were present wish to add reflections or begin conversations, please feel welcome to do so.
I know it is the end of summer, and many of us are on vacation. Hopefully these reflections and conversations can grow as we enter September. I cannot begin to tell you how exciting these days were and how much we all learned. My favorite comment came at the final conversation when one participant invited all present to expect miracles! Thanks be to God!
Yours in Christ,
Diane Jacobson, director of the Book of Faith Initiative
