If everyone is going to church on Sunday does that make them right? Because sunday is the first day of the week. Saturday is the Seventh day.
The Bible says that "man shall not live by bread along but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God"
Right you are - Saturday is indeed day seven and is the traditional Sabbath. Sunday (as the traditional day we all go to church) came into prominence beginning with the early church's recognition of Sunday as the first day of the week being the day of Christ's resurrection - at least as it has been explained to me, so anyone else can feel free to correct me.
This was actually pretty confusing to me as a kid until somebody explained it. Sunday is the "church" day - so I guess I always assumed it was the day the Bible talked about when it mentioned the Sabbath, and there were lots of other people who thought that too. (We have all sorts of more scholarly folks on here than me, so I am sure they can add something more substantial and interesting to the conversation about the tradition and history of this than I can.)
I guess my question is: What does it mean to celebrate the Sabbath and keep it holy (per #4 of the big 10)?
Thank you for your input I feel the same as you but I also have the dilema of keeping the sabath day holy. I know that the Bible says not to forsake the assembling of yourselves together. but is it wrong to do it on Sunday and not Saturday?
i think we go to church on sunday exactly bc its the 1st day of the week...
Creation started on the first day of the week and when christ was raised it began a NEW creation
its like Easter is every Sunday and so we go to worship the God who did this thing "early on the first day of the week"
but im all for resting every chance we get.
Genesis 2:3 says "Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all his work which God had created and made".
then there is Exodus 16:23-30 "Exo 16:23 And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
Exo 16:24 And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.
Exo 16:25 And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
Exo 16:26 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath,in it there shall be none.
Exo 16:27 And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.
Exo 16:28 And the LORD said unto Moses,How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?
Exo 16:29 See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.
Exo 16:30 So the people rested on the seventh day.
I think more important than deciding which is the "true" sabbath day is making sure that we take the time for what sabbath means. It's from a Hebrew word that basically means "to cease." God may have rested on the seventh day. But what's the seventh day? The calendar is a human invention. So whether we work weekends or weekdays, what is important is making sure at least one day out of 7 is set aside for sabbath rest.
it was constantine who changed the 7th day sabbath of God to Sunday who is he? as we know in history he is criminal he slaughtered many people who do you believe him or God who commanded to sanctify the seventh day and holy it, its your decision.
I believe the point is taking time for a Sabbath - daily, weekly, monthly... each day you need to return to the source of your strength - God and His Word. It's not about setting aside Saturday for Sabbath - but if that works for you then great, do it. The point is, we cannot go nonstop, or we will "crash and burn" as the saying goes. Rest is important. Knowing that and knowing that God knows that, well, we need to take a look at our lives and find a time for that.
To me the sabbath day is a symbol of entering into the rest that God has given us through Jesus. I find that resting in God is a daily exercise.
I get this from Heb 4:9-10 "There remains, then a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his."
Entering into this rest makes it possible for me to not be as stressed and worried about what is happening in my life.
I do enjoy taking a day in the week to just to relax. I find that I need the down time that this gives me. My family also knows that on one of my days off I need to just stay home and relax. Since I work a lot of weekends my day of rest isn't always Sunday or Saturday.
Sabbath day is a vital thing if we profess that we are a follower of Jesus. the Bible confirms it, Ex. 20:8. Ezek. 20:12; 20;20, Luke 4:16, Heb. 4:4 and many more. some say that it is only for the Jews well, its a little bit confusing, only christians will be save and all the Jews will be punish? certainly not. In isaiah chapter 66 says that there is still sabbath in heaven, so if seventh-day is for the Jews and Sunday is for the Christians, there will be a division in worship? now, God is not a changeable God, only men changes thier beliefs and tradition to fit thier needs. Saturday is the Seventh-day and it is the true Sabbath. God bless.
7I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments.
Isaiah 58:13-14 (King James Version)
13If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
14Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
