Good question!

I'm going to think on it a little before I write more.

Off the top of my head: who or what determines or decides something.

I can answer it better with examples, so I'll give it some thought and post more later.

Given the topic I'd like to make a suggestion.

Some of understanding "Catholics vs. Lutherans" is understanding what it is to be Lutheran.

I've found Kelly Fryer's little book Reclaiming the "L" Word a really good exploration of what it is to be Lutheran. Given that Kelly's background is Roman Catholic, her perspectives in that book may be especially germane.
