I have just received the new Lutheran Study Bible and I see that Dr. Priebe contributed to some of the study pieces in it.

No, I have not gone through the whole candidacy process. Pastor Zamzow tells me that I need to finish my bachelors degree first and the seminary says I don't need to. But itis up to the candidacy committee first so I am working on finishing my degree. After May I will need five more credits of A work. Finding courses is the hard part.

Alley,
If Dr. Priebe had a test, I would seriously have to answer at least one quetion with the answer.."That's a good question."

I'm thinking seiously about it. The whole thing seems like diving into a raging river and I'm not too sure of my swimming skills.
Have you already gone through the candidacy thing? It looks like they weed out the first batch of dreamers with the paper work alone.

Teri,
Do you want to go to seminary? Are following in the footsteps of your Dad? Well us cousins could go together.

Don't forget having to actually undersand Priebe for the tests. They may have a communion wine tasting class...that might help. If not that can be a topic of a study group.

I guess I'd better learn Greek then. I hate writing papers. And I have test anxiety. I choke when a clock is ticking. Could there be anything else to whine about regarding semenary?

Teri --

The classes would be helpful in getting started in seminary classes, but as Chris said, they are not taken for credit and so they wouldn't count.

The retreat that I'm currently attending is doing some networking to see if we CAN start doing some crossover and accreditation of Lay School classes ... such as Paul's or Priebe's ... but that hasn't happened yet. The Covenant Cluster is gathering information:
* What does the syllabus look like?
* Who is teaching?
* What are the credentials of the teacher?
* How much time is spent in the classroom?
* What sort of work is required of the student? and how is that work evaluated?
And so on.

If a Lay School class is going to be accepted for credit, it must meet the same criteria that a Seminary class would. Our LSM classes don't meet those criteria. There is no "classwork" that is evaluated -- papers, tests, etc. And I don't think the face to face time in class is sufficient for a full credit to be given.

The closest I've come to getting credit for someone is that a couple of my Greek students have gone into seminary and taken a placement test for Greek -- and tested out of a couple classes. One tested out of the Greek completely; one tested out of 2 of the 3 required classes.

Shalom,
P. Kay
