Faith5? What Does It Mean?
It’s an acronym for Faith Acts In The Home.
The FAITH5 (formerly known as the FINK5) are embedded in every resource at Faith Inkubators. These five steps are at the very center of everything we do and have become our trademark for ministry in the congregation and in the home.
Have you been at a meeting where Highs & Lows were shared? If so, there’s a good chance the leader in the group knows about Faith Inkubators resources.
The Five Steps:
1. Share Highs & Lows
2. Read Scripture
3. Talk about how scripture relates to Highs & Lows
4. Pray for one another’s Highs & Lows
5. Bless one another
“Faith In The Home” is self-explanatory.
Acts ? First, the definition of “acts” as a noun is something someone has done or the action of carrying something out. Our focus is to take action in every household and set an expectation to intentionally carry them out.
Secondly, as a verb it means to do something and behave in a particular way. Our goal is to invite all households to establish a tradition of sharing 5 easy steps every night and behave accordingly.
Thirdly, when asked what the healthiest thing a young person could say is, Tony Campolo answered, “We always do it this way in our home.” ‘We’ means one is not alone. ‘Always’ means there’s a ritual and ‘this way’ means a tradition. ‘Our home’ says there’s a place to go to call home.
What more could we want then for households to be saying this?
Last but not least, Acts is the name of the book in the Bible that connects the Gospels to the rest of the New Testament. The beginning of Acts moves right from the life of Jesus to the birth of the church, Pentecost.
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses.” Acts 1:8
After the Holy Spirit came upon them, the disciples went from town to town establishing smaller churches some refer to as “house churches”. Faith in the home is our goal. What better place to invite the Holy Spirit to come upon us?
Faith Inkubators ministries began15 years ago. Since the first year, all the resources have had as their core a five step faith practice. We call these steps The FAITH5. They haven’t changed over the years, but the impact they have had on congregations has changed significantly.
Congregations are encouraged to role model all five steps at least one time during the week so that everyone is familiar with them. Then households are asked to “take 5” (minutes that is…) to practice the same 5 steps “every night in every home”.
When an opportunity is provided for families to share stories about their faith practices in the home, stories abound. Lives grow. Traditions are built. Relationships are strengthened. The way a congregation functions changes.
It is setting an expectation and intentionality to practice these 5 steps that has made a huge difference in the way we “do church”.
God sent His son so that we may live.
It’s in our hands to get the word into our homes!
“Day by day as they spent much time in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad generous hearts.” Acts 2:6
Role modeling every week in every congregation what we invite to happen every night in every home.
Has your congregation practiced the FAITH5?
