There is still plenty of room and time to register for the School of Lay Ministry classes offered at Luther Seminary June 29-July 2! You do not need to be a registered student in the NE MN School of Lay Ministry to attend. It's open for all. Course fee is $100. Check out KAIROS at Luther Sem. Great classes & great fellowship.

You can download a registration brochure for the Lay Leader Extravaganza! by going to the Synod's Web site: http://www.nemnsynod.org/ Bring a group from your congregation! The keynote presenter is Rev. Dr. Henry French. Pastor French is on our Synod roster and lives in Finlayson. He authored the Book of Faith 40-Day Lenten Journey.

Thanks for the invitation to the website and the 1/31 lay leader training. It was an amazing experience! Combining together an opportunity to learn to teach others about the bible, an excellent teacher, and a chance to meet our new bishop...it doesn't get much better! Last night I spent a couple hours using the study methods we reviewed and lost track of time completely! I loved it! I am looking forward having a chance to pass along what I am learning on 3/21/09 at Our Saviors, Cloquet! Hope to see you all there! God bless!

Thank you Kathe for inviting me to be a part of this "group". I thought I was in last week, when I joined up; as I said, I did not know what group I was in, and was concerned that I was the 1790th member, but there were only 1780 some members. Well, I am delighted to be a part of the Book of Faith initiative, and so enjoyed the workshop in Cloquet on Saturday, the 31st. I truly felt the day flew by. Pastor Mesner has such a wonderful gift of teaching us; so, it was an incredible experience. On March 21st, I hope to be a part of that workshop, lending my input to a much grander scale and reaching more people with the message of a new way to view the Bible.
It appears that the synod assembly will also be focusing on the Book of Faith initiative, so there will be another chance for us as in the Lay Ministers School to get additional information. This is an exciting time for the Lutheran church, using lay people to get the message to the rest of our flock. It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of such an initiative and I look forward with anticipation to the next session.

I am just becoming familiar with the book of faith and i am really excited about what I have learned so far. This is an very exciting time and I look forward to learning more and hopefully being able to teach others. I am currently attending the School of Lay Ministry and hope to be attending Luther Seminary next year to work toward my Master of Divinity degree. I currently work as a quality control operator at North Shore Mining in Silver Bay where I live with my wife and 4 daughters. I hope to finish my Masters Degree over the next few years and will hit 20 years at the plant at the same time. At that point I hope to switch from mining to full a full time Minister. I look forward to meeting and discussing scripture with other members of this sight.

I just joined, and can feel the excitement! I will be attending the training session at Our Saviors in Cloquet on the 31st, and can hardly wait to get started and do my part to move this initiative forward in our church.
I am presently taking part in the School for Lay Ministry program. During our Luther Seminary event last December, Rolf Jacobson - associate professor of Old Testament, presented a segment titled "Faith Out Loud". It basically invited us to go beyond the Lectionary readings, and add some spice to our message by exploring the other stories in the Bible. He proposed the idea that most adults do not know the Bible other than what the Lectionary cycle presents. The Book of Faith initiative will be an exciting way to get myself and my congregation out of the Lectionary and into the Bible in many exciting ways. I'm ready to take it to the next level!

I am still processing - and will be for some time - our bishop's trip of accompaniment in Palestine and Israel. So many experiences brought up for me Scripture passages. In the midst of the long standing feuds in the region, we Christians live in the power of Christ's work of reconciliation. He had "brought down the dividing wall" and given us the "ministry of reconciliation" are two portions of passages that both haunt me and give me hope. We are people of faith who are fortunate to go to a book of faith!
