Question for you all. How do you deal with the attitude of a church council member who believes that Bible Study should not be a part of the church council meeting and who believes that the meetings are just about the business of the church?

Bernita, I have not read the Converstion Forum on Bible Study Happening on the South Dakota page yet. I will after I am done writing. I am unable to attend the Book of Faith event at Outlaw. The synod office has been doing the publicity for the event.

Holly - did you read the Conversation Forum on Bible Study Happenings posted in April on the South Dakota page? Will you be attending the Book of Faith workshop at Outlaw Ranch the day before Assembly begins? There hasn't been much promotional material on it. My church secretary directed me to the South Dakota Synod web site...otherwise I received no direct information.

At our Book of Faith Team meeting this past Sunday, one of the members asked what other churches are doing? So I am now asking you all what you are doing for the Book of Faith?

We have a ways to go before registrations will be available for the Book of Faith Resource day. The SD Synod will take the registrations-probably online. We will let you know when the registrations will be available. It will be after the first of the year.

Who will be taking registrations...and when?
SD Synod? Outlaw Ranch? I'm definitely interested.
Will you be notifying us again when registrations begin?
Thanks for keeping us informed.

Luther Seminary has released a marvelous tool for studying the Bible. A website called Entering the Bible. It has wonderful historical and geographic material and is a free resource. Check it out at http://www.enterthebible.org/Bible.aspx

Greetings,
Has anyone tried summer Bible studies with success? I'm thinking about trying one of the new BOF studies as a four-week series in July. A fool's errand?
I'm thinking about the "A Gardener, Two Travelers and a Cheat". Catchy title to introduce Adam Abraham and Sarah and Jacob. I'm just fishing for any clever ways to engage us in Scripture on these hazy, lazy days...

Bernita,
It's taken me awhile to reply to your answer to my question re: resources! Thanks so much for the comments - especially your evaluation of the INTRODUCING JESUS OF NAZARETH video. This is exactly what I needed to hear. I am talking with our pastor this coming week about BOF offerings for next year.
Thanks! Have a wonderful summer.

Hi again Mary. I've watched many of the videos myself and hope
to use them in the future. I think my congregation is set up to
play them on a large screen we use in our sanctuary. I especially
liked REDISCOVERING SCRIPTURE...3:39 min. by John Mann of
Luther Seminary. I thought it conveyed a lot of warmth, and
thought it might be nice to use as an introductory piece for
encouraging others to LOOK INTO MORE OF THE BOF RESOURCES!
And perhaps to place orders for the new Lutheran Study Bible.
I also liked INTRODUCING JESUS OF NAZARETH 45 min.
with Peter Marty. It's pretty fast moving...interesting for adults
I think...kind of "Ministry of Jesus in a Nutshell." I didn't
expect to watch the whole thing, but I got hooked!
I'll also be interested in the responses you get.
Thanks for sharing notes......Bernita
