Advent IV at Bethany, Cherry Hills Village, CO

I thought of my friends and family back in Baltimore who were unable to get to worship today because of the blizzard. Here in Denver it was bright, sunny, warm, dry which brought the folks out for a veritable worship feast and I don't just mean at the Lord's Table, where we feast every Sunday.Pastor Ruth Ann, in her usual fashion had a dynamite sermon entitled "Sing!" based on the Magnificat in the text in St. Luke. She was aided by Pastor Ron's good friend and ELCA member Peter Mayer who gave…See More

All Saints Day at Bethany, Cherry Hills Village, CO

For a second Sunday in a row we were privileged to have a seminary presidsent in our midst to bring THE WORD. Anyone who heard Dr. Mark Ramseth of Trinity Seminary, Columbus, OH, could not miss the transparency of this seminary president's investment in faith formation. For ordained clergy, this is where it starts. But also in the parish.Mark's take on the text from St. John perfeftly fit faith formation, both in the parish and in the seminary. As we remembered the saints in our parish who had…See More

Reformation Sunday

At Bethany, Cherry Hills Village, CO, we were pleased to hear THE WORD from Dr. James Echols, president of the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC). What a great morning and aid to our faith formation at Bethany. Dr. Echols had a lively take on the Johannine text and later some of us were priviledged to share lunch and conversation with him. It reaffirmed my contention that our seminaries are vitally involved in the faith formation process, and we even talked a bit about encouraging…See More

Charlie! I have heard all good things about the pastoral staff at Bethany these days. Kevin Dragseth is a good friend too. Marcy is doing well and we have two daughters now--Greta and Talia (3 and 9 mo.). They are quite a pair.

I did get to know Ruth Ann while I was still at Bethany and she and I did a year together at Wartburg too. I hold her in the highest regard. Bethany continues the tradition of top-notch pastors. Good to hear from you and your enthusiasm for God's Word and God's people is a blessing to Bethany and continues to be a blessing to me!
