Book of Faith Jubilee

Six people, that I am aware of, attended the Book of Faith Jubilee, Aug. 14-16. I have asked Katherine Eisele, Spirit of Joy, Sioux Falls, to write up some highlights and 'take aways' from the event that will be posted here and other places in early September. In the meantime I just recieved a handout that was used by Dr. David Lose (Luther Seminary) at a workshop at the Book of Faith Jubilee. He titles it Igniting Bible Imagination, and gives some good perspective for catching the people's…See More

Jodi

Can you provide me with further information regarding the faith builders course later this month?

Also can you provide me with details on how the book of faith network should work. I have joined, now looking for direction in the next step, I guess.

Thanks
Don

Hi Jodi...Now that you are back from the BOF conference in Minneapolis, I'm wondering if you could post a report for us...either on the BOF SD Synod page, as a NEW CONVERSATION...or on the SD Synod Blog site...or perhaps BOTH!!! I'd love to hear all the tips and suggestions that came out of that gathering. And perhaps you could also report on the content of the conference call you had this week. With fall programs starting up for all our congregations, I'd like an opportunity to share all the various plans people have. Having these connections helps to inspire and encourage us in all our efforts. It has a building and growth effect. We all need some good ideas to promote Bible Study in our congregations, and a sharing of resources we've found helpful. Thanks.....Bernita Mannes, Yankton, SD

THANKS JODI...I will make plans to go ahead with a pilot Bible Study on Philippians. I will send a MESSAGE TO ALL to the SD Synod group on April 13, explaining the format, with an invitation to participate. I will then post the 1st week's conversation
on Phil. 1 on April 20, and will also send a MESSAGE TO ALL
that they will find the First week of Bible Study on SD Synod
page...and again invite all to participate or observe.
This seems to be how other groups have begun. If you have
any suggestions, please pass them on to me.
May God bless us as we embark on something new on BOF.

Hi Jodi...
I have been observing a couple of BOF Bible Studies and would like to try a short one for the SD Synod group. It could serve as a
learning session for participants...and if successful, a model for
future on-line Bible Study. Ps Kevin, from Church of the Redeemer of Marian, IA, has graciously shared his method of
introducing a study with his congregation. You can read his comments on MY BOF page. I am willing to act as leader of a
study...and think that a 4 week session on Phillipians would work
nicely. I would notify ALL SD Synod members, and invite them
to participate...or observe...as they wish. I have three members
who have indicated they will participate along with me.
I would begin a NEW CONVERSATION each week...introducing the text (one chapter of Phillipians each week)...and posing a couple
of questions to serve as conversation starters. My study Bible has a nice outline on Phillipians...I would draw from it.
Each participant would respond (within 48 hrs.),
and then open conversation...
comments and replies...to fill out the week. Next week:
NEW CONVERSATION. We can see how it goes...and for week 5
ask for comments and suggestions. I'd like to do this soon, before
people (me included) get too busy with summer schedules.
So I propose starting April 20th. I will commit to managing the
study as best as I can...I have no experience with this other than
observing what others have been doing on BOF. It really appeals
to me. Let me know what you think. If you'd like to discuss it
further with a phone call, my number is: (605) 665-4428.
Hope to hear from you soon...

Hi Jodi...Just to keep you informed...I did invite Bishop Zellmer to
join us on the SD Synod group...and also Robin Flom of Yankton...
a new member on BOF. I'm going to begin recruiting a few folks.
They don't seem to be finding time to join without a little nudge...
and yet they express interest. We need to beat the bushes, I think, if we hope to get something fun rolling. Looks like an interesting weekend in store weather-wise. Stay safe...stay warm! Thanks for your support with BOF matters.....

Hi Jodi...Would it be appropriate to INVITE Bishop David Zellmer
to join the SD Synod group? I just tried to do it, but apparently
they are asking for his e-mail address, which I don't have.
Could you do it? My message to him was:
"Please join us at BOF SD Synod group as we try to recruit new members and become a dynamic gathering spot for Lutherans in South Dakota. We expect exciting developments!"

I just got off the phone with Kathleen West...and yes, she found a
directive to "SIGN IN"...and when she did...ALL WAS SOLVED!
Thanks for your time. We'll get this figured out eventually...
and then begin using it!!!

Good Morning Jodi...
I have officially registered our congregation, Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, SD, as a participant in the BOF Initiative.
I will be the congregational representative for the program, and am looking forward to exciting new programs. Are you making any plans for leadership training? How many South Dakota congregations have registered so far? I can see from the
South Dakota Synod Group there are a couple of BOF studies
going...and I will keep up on their comments as Trinity makes
plans. I don't know if we will get anything officially underway
until fall, but I already have been sharing some items from the
website with the Bible Study group I have been meeting with
weekly at church. It's a good way for me to experiment with
different ways to introduce some of the best features of the site.
While cruising the website, I came across this conference in
Minneapolis...planned for just prior to the national church conference. Will you be attending? Should I be planning to?
I appreciate your response...and all your efforts with the BOF
Initiative. I am really excited about it!

Jodi,

We had a nice conversation at our congregation annual meeting today. We are planning to undertake the 40 day Lenten journey as a congregation as part of our involvement with the community Lenten services. It must be part of God's plan, it all just fell into place.

Hi Jodi,
It was great to visit with you at convo. I hope you all have a wonderful time at the Western Mission Conference. Wish I could be there this year but I know Scott Kiehn will do an excellent job representing our NE MN Synod School of Lay Ministry! Hopefully, I can join you all again next year. Enjoy the warm temps and the great company!
