Pastor, NJ Synod Book of Faith Advocate, Biblical Storyteller
What is most challenging about engaging in Scripture?
I find it both challenging and rewarding that there is the necessity for redundancy. I enjoy the challenged of helping folks see beyond their understanding that they "know" the story. I want to help prepare them instead to receive God in the telling of the biblical story – much in the same way we receive God in communion.
Share a Bible passage that is especially meaningful to you.
Romans 8:31-35,36-39
What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else? Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ... No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Paul - you recently sent an email to the synod advocates and referenced an email from Diane. Can you send that to me? In the group email they have my email address incorrect and I am trying to get in changed. In the meantime can you forward it to me - toniajlindquist@aol.com

Here are some good resources we are using at Christ the King:
A Beginners' Guide to Reading the Bible, by Craig Koester, Fortress
A Beginners's Guide to The Books of the Bible, by Diane Jacobson & Robert Kysar, Fortress
A Beginner's Guide to Studying the Bible, by Rolf Aaseng
Having Words with God, by Karl Allen Kuhn, Fortress
A walk through the Bible, by Lesslie Newbigin, Westminster John Know
I find these are actually more useful that most of the books published under "Book of Faith" logo.

Paul, it is good. We love where we live and the faith community. We have been here now into our 3rd year. Hard to believe. I am stepping into an interim 1/2 time in October. 20 miles from Chico. Come on over. It is fun. Bill

I've been working on a resource supporting the Read Through the Scripture in a Year portion of Book of Faith. It is pretty labor intensive, but has promise.
