Greetings, I am a pastor in Texas. I am in the "stable" of writers for Word in Season and Christ in Our Home. In addition, I have done a few past projects for Augsburg and published an Advent devotional called The Jesse Tree at Creative Communicat...

Hi Robert - Welcome to this group, which has gotten sleepy lately, I guess! I confess that I myself check Facebook more often than I check this group, but... if there were more activity, perhaps more of us would keep up with it... I appreciate tha...

I just joined this group, but it doesn't appear to have much recent activity. I note your suggestion of self-introductions for new members, and I will comply. I hail from Upsala in central Mn, but my wife and I recently relocated to Northfield. I...

This is a lovely account of a real encounter between scripture and people!! Thank you for writing and sharing it here, Bobbie. Why no dancing/singing with Miriam? Your early "sadness at the culture" for the way women were (excluded?) makes me thin...

I hear you, Amber! "not knowing what to say / to those in pain / stuck in the rain"... I like those lines particularly. Are you part of a writer's group where you live? I, too, have been drawn to write poetically for much of my life. Now in my ear...

Thank you for posting these, Tim!! I just sent a link to Jim Homme, and Pastor Buresh of University Lutheran.

Beautiful and important work, Tim.

Thank you for posting this, Bobbie. Seeing the images helps make it more real, less abstract... I am lacking personal contact with Palestinians, Israelis, in my own life... the more we can put real lives and faces into the big world story, the mor...

feel free to use whatever !!,,some of the ideas we use came from others ,some were used for adults and we modified them for the sundayschoolers !!
when we started lay school many of the students were shy about asking questions and it took several sessions for everyone to open up !! now we're like a family and probably drive the teachers a little nut's with the questions !!
What articles have you published ,,would be interested in reading them !!

Stopping by... saying hi... I rarely visit this page anymore... I'll go to "main" to see what's happening... I just heard that Eugene Peterson will be the keynote speaker at the BoF Jubilee preceeding the Churchwide Assembly in August. That's great!

I have a confession to make. I'm more attracted to spending time on Facebook than I am spending time here. That's just the Way It Is, baby.

Hi Sara, how is the drama coming along? I hadn't heard from you for a while. We're doing a "reader's theater" of the Lukan gospel for Christmas eve. I'll let you know how it goes. Mark

Hi Sara!

Why yes, I do have a connection to Luther! I teach there :) Thank you so much for your post - I have struggled too with reading - and I guess that's why this project appealed to me so much.

I find God's presence in my life as a teacher - I'm repeatedly reminded of God's goodness as I work with students, who in turn work with patients (I'm a nursing professor). Are you in a bible study of some sort? I'm sort of searching - my old bible study dissolved and I lack the wherewithal in gathering people together - but certainly crave the sort of discipline that regular reading and prayer can provide.

Decorah is a beautiful town - I'm glad that you had a nice time at the Writer's festival. Did you meet Nancy Barry, one of English professors? She's one of my favorite colleagues...

Thanks again for the posting - it's so nice to have someone get me started on this website.

Hi Sara, that sounds really interesting--fun--and I think it will be really helpful in bringing the texts alive for folks. Since I serve two tiny rural congregations, I'm not sure how it would work here.

I have two folks very involved in local theater productions--and my oldest daughter who is a voice/theater/music ed. major. I'd love to help them get started in trying some new stuff out--even to the point of some drama replacing sermon on Sunday mornings. Keep me posted how its going for you! You'll be in my prayers.

Sara --

It's been awhile since I read "Voyage." I might need to go back and read it again. At the moment, I'm enjoying re-reading Harry Potter, as I look forward to the release of the next movie.

Shalom,
Kay

Yep. I collect dragons. My favorite is a character in several stories by Father Edward Hays. Igor the dragon is a storyteller -- just my kind of "critter"!

Where I'm coming from

Allison Reno (a new BoF acquaintance) asked me to share some of my views (as I was also curious about hers) so I wrote a few introductory words on her page which I decided to boldly share with the broader blog-reading public, here:

About me that reveals my views...? Some favorite authors: Annie Dillard, James Carse, Sue Monk Kidd, Frederick Buechner, Thomas Moore ("Care of the Soul"). Was raised in Lutheran Free church and Lutheran Brethren. Felt pressure to "lead my friends to Jesus" but truth… Continue

Dry Spells

9/24/08
For a month or so I was “on fire” about Book of Faith, and Getting Back Into Scripture and so forth… then one night at Bible Study I sorta hit a wall. Saturation. “Enough for now.” So I talked about that with the group, and they all agreed that “dry” times come and go. It’s just a reality of being human. Good to admit it to each other… that’s my only comment for today.

Need for Healing

I want to write about my experience with Book of Faith as a member of University Lutheran in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in 2008. I want to write about my experience with Book of Faith as a lifelong “agonized Christian” who often sympathizes with agnostics, struggles within her faith, questions and wonders. I want to write about filling out one of the “Assessment Tool” forms (with questions along the lines of “how was the Bible used in your family growing up?”) and being surprised by an upwelling of e… Continue
