Book of Faith

Augsburg Fortress has just published two new Bibles for children - the Spark Story Bible for ages 2-grade 2 and the Spark Bible (NRSV) for grades 3-6. These age-appropriate Bibles are excellent resources to build a foundation of Biblical literacy.

Samples can be downloaded for each - check them out!

I am thrilled with the new Spark Bible. It is perfect for a first "grown-up" Bible to be given as a Stepping stone/Milestone Bible. I am going to use it to create a Bible Olympics events for our high school youth to lead for our 4th-6th graders to help them learn how to find things in the Bible and discover its treasure! I am also very impressed with the Spark Story Bible - I lead a weekly chapel service for pre-school kids and it is perfect to share with them. I may even engage our confirmands/high school youth to re-create some of the characters on foam board cutouts to use as visuals for large groups of kids. I even like the little spark catepillar that shows up in the illustrations like "where is waldo" - pretty funny.

The story Bible rocks! Everyone I have shown ours to loves it. I"m a fan of the orange in the Spark Bible, and I personally like the relative lack of clutter in it, but I'm not sure it's actually really exciting...

I just ordered one of each. I really like the Story Bible. I will be suggesting that we buy a few for our pre-school classrooms. I'd even like for us (the congregation) to give a Story Bible to each family who has an infant baptized. The jury is still out on the Spark Bible. We have been using the Adventure Bible (NIV) and I really like the way it relates to kids. I plan to spend more time with the Spark Bible this summer and hope to post more comments as I learn more about it.
