I learned this new word in "Sunday School", yesterday 11/29/2009 - and though I know Natural Theology & Critical Philosophy. I never-ever looked up "Systematic Theology"
Thank GOD for Wikipedia!
"Systematic theology is a discipline of Christian theology that attempts to formulate an orderly, rational, and coherent account of the Christian faith and beliefs. Inherent to a system of theological thought is that a method is developed, one which can be applied both broadly and particularly. Systematic theology draws on the foundations of the sacred texts of Christianity, and also looks to the development of doctrine over the course of history, philosophy, science, and ethics to produce as full a view and as versatile a philosophical approach as possible."
One example of Systematic Theology was summed up in three words for me on Sunday
"God Comes Down!"
When others can fit God on a bumper sticker, I tend to become very skeptical of it's Spiritual value. It makes Christianity seem almost too simple, again.
"God comes down," I was then told could be elaborated on with years of Seminary School and Education, and after reading the 15-page handout for homework (prior to class) - I know what our Instructor meant, but the 15-pages of knowledge, that I read before CLASS has suddenly lost its value.
This is WHY - I think I have felt crazy, for MOST of my LIFE?!?! I would gladly do ALL of the homework necessary to succeed and excel. I wanted to be the "A+" until I was about 12 years old, but then I thought I found "GOD" And he allowed me to COAST through My LIFE on Bumper stickers for the next 25 years.
And, now at age 36 I find myself returning to "God" and there are more Bumper stickers to discover.
